November 2013 - Crossroads of Life - Acrylic Artwork by Elin Egoyan

Elin's acrylic paintings are very striking because of their use of bright and harmonious colors. She often tries to tell a story or represent select emotional states. Her intuition and inner emotions serve as her guide. She floats with the motion and colours of her paintings, all of which contain waves of colour and harmony bursting off the canvas.

When she came to Second Life her goal was to have her own gallery. In the 6 years she has been here her drive to make her creations better and better can be found with the merging of her artistic digital art and vases. Uniting her SLigital art and RLainting art is something she is very proud and happy about.

Come see this wonderful artist's Acrylic Painting and Vases the month of November at the OZLAND Art Gallery. Make sure you take home the free gift that she has made especially for guests to this exhibit.

"Color Play" Watercolor Paintings by Antenna Rae

The work that Antenna Rae exhibits in Second Life is mostly abstract.  She is interested in color as expression and the balance or imbalance of light and dark.  She often works very intuitively, sometimes not even knowing what a piece is about until she is well into it.  She likes to hear what people see in her artwork and is delighted when she encounters someone with a different perspective and interpretation of her work than she had intended.

Antenna has worked as an artist in different ways over the years, starting out as a scenic artist and properties artisan for various theater and opera companies in the US.  She's been painting in watercolor specifically for about 10 years and after having painted realistically for theater, enjoys working in the abstract now.  In addition to painting and teaching from her studio in real life, Antenna works as an artist-in-residence in a hospital, teaches studio art and art history to high schoolers, and is in grad school part-time studying social work.

You can view Antenna's wonderful artwork the month of April at the OZLAND Art Gallery.  Don't forget to pick up the FREE gift she has made for all guests visiting the gallery too.

Elbow Muggins - Don' Ration your Passion - Line Drawing Exhibit for March 2013

Rats versus Cats - by Elbow Muggins
"Don't Ration Your Passion" Line Drawings by Elbow Muggins

Elbow Muggins works from his home studio in the USA.

In many of his ink sketches the love he has for the impressionists comes through in their open compositions and quick, rough feel. He generally uses a Cross Ball-Point Pen as it gives him very good line control, no bleeding and wide tonal range. His drawings are most often done traditionally, then scanned and edited and or colored with art programs like Photo Shop.

When Elbow does commercial work, it's done in a medium and style best suited for the given project. Often his commercial work is photo-retouching, color correcting or manipulating to meet a client's needs and likely to be so subtle as to not know it has been worked.

Elbow has been running his SL gallery for over four years, but you can view Elbow's extraordinary artwork the month of March at the OZLAND Art Gallery. Don't forget to pick up the FREE gift he has left for all guests visiting the gallery too.

"Lost Leaf" Original Digital Paintings by Mathilde Vhargon at the OZLAND Art Gallery

Mathilde Vhargon is a former professional classical musician. She began making sculpture in Second Life and then became more focused on digital painting, which she creates using only Gimp software and a mouse or digital drawing pad. She loves the many possibilities digital software offers for creating and saving multiple versions of a piece she is working on. Her paintings suggest themselves to her a little at a time without conscious planning. She often uses small sections of them as materials to develop into new paintings.

Mathilde dislikes sharp corners and edges, so her process usually involves blending and merging for smooth transitions, with dozens of small adjustments to produce the subtle, rich, analogous colour layering she enjoys. She loves strong colours and flowing abstract forms. You will often find ambiguous suggestions that lead the viewer to imagine various possibilities and interpretations. She is most happy when her art creates a chain of associations and questions about life and humanity.  "The possibility that we might touch someone with a common connection, making them think and feel in response to our work, is the most wonderful thing about making art," she says.

You can view Mathilde's artwork at the OZLAND Art Gallery the month of February. Don't forget to take home the FREE gift she has made for all visitors.
